C.1960-1980. This is a loom beaded belt, made by Helene or Irving Bonatsie.
Loom beadwork features rows of beads strung loom-style, and then attached to a
backing or simply used as is. In this piece, the beaded strip has been
attached to buckskin to form a belt. Loom beading is much quicker
than applying single beads and is an atypical Shoshone form. Note that the
design includes traditional mountains and boxed eyes. Courtesy private collection. |
