C. 1910-1920. Shoshone beaded gauntlets. Buckskin, cotton thread, seed
beads, metallic beads, cotton print lining. A note in the box suggests that these
gauntlets and the other
items were gifts of Chief Washakie to various Indian agents. Not possible
in this instance, as these gauntlets were constructed about 20 years after Washakie's death. Note that these gauntlets demonstrate a transition from
early geometric & floral designs of the 19th century to more realistic florals
of the 20th century. They also are somewhat similar to Blackfeet
beadwork, which often uses a three-flower design. Click
