C.1965. Eastern Shoshone beaded moccasins from Wind River Reservation. Brain tanned leather, rawhide soles. Seed beads, cotton thread, dyed plumes. Size is 9.5" x 4." This pair of moccasins has the hallmark "Shoshone rose" but also includes bifurcated tongues, highly unusual for Shoshone moccasin construction. As such, they show the influence of Sioux, Cheyenne or Arapaho styles. Courtesy private collection. |
