In this scene, Washakie pursues two Blackfeet warriors who are riding double.
This particular event does match a portion of the narrative recorded by Captain
Ray in 1893. Compared to the other hide paintings, note that the figures
and the overall use of color are not quite as well developed. Although
there is no evidence that Chief Washakie painted this hide, it does have more of
the feeling of a personal record than the other hides, all of which were painted
for commercial sales. |
