Chief Washakie Historical Non-Photographical Images 1

Charley Washakie, son of the chief, painted this elk hide in honor of his father's warrior exploits.  As can be seen, he modeled the image of Washakie on the Baker & Johnson photo.  Courtesy Wyoming State Museum.

This is a close-up of an image of Chief Washakie painted on a deerskin.  The signature says "Shoshone Indian Reservation, Wyo."  Above that are the letters "CO" or perhaps "CW."  Obviously, this is another image based on a Baker & Johnson photograph.  The hide was loaned in the early 1920s to the George Gustav Heye Museum in New York City and is now part of the collection of the Smithsonian National Museum of the American Indian.  Cat. No. 10/1935.

This is an embossed coin from the Limited Edition Native American Series.  Uses the Baker & Johnson photograph of Washakie with the peace pipe as the model.

The reverse side of the coin.

A Goudey bubble gum card, c. 1933.
