Chief Washakie Historical Photographs 4

The riders are Oiti [Oatah], Washakie & Papagoit.  Otah was another important Eastern Shoshone headman, and served as various capacities as a tribal judge and policeman.  Baker & Johnson,  1884-1885.

This photograph probably is a cropped & re-sized photograph from above.  The image is reversed.

Unknown photographer, c. 1890s.  Washakie stands next to William McCabe, a former wagonmaster employed by the Shoshone Indian Agency.

This is a solo shot of Washakie next to the same tree as in the photo above.

Washakie with unidentified white man.  This may be a Frank J. Haynes photograph, 1883, as Washakie has a white hat that is similar to the one he holds in the group picture at the bottom on the previous page. Or, according to Joan Gallo, she believes the white man might be one of Chief Washakie's friends, Speed Richmond Stagner.  Speed was a scout and freighter, owned land and cattle and also lived on the Wind River Reservation.
