Fly Fish the Wind!

August nights are cold, days almost always warm in Wyoming’s northern Rockies. Hordes of great brown trout are on the move, heading upstream for their fall spawn. Fishermen regularly catch ten-pounders or better, as well as rainbows and cutthroats!

The 2004 dates for this annual fund-raiser are August 25-29 or August 31-Sept. 4, 2004. Or Full Session Aug. 25 - Sept. 4.

August 25-29 or August 31-Sept. 4

The Lucius Burch Center is offering a unique fly-fishing adventure, Fly Fish the Wind! Ranchers along the Wind River, East Fork and other outstanding streams in the Dubois area are making their private waters available to us for this exclusive fund-raising effort. Some of Wyoming’s best guides live in Dubois and will be on hand to teach you their classified home waters. If you like, they'll even help you tie your own flies, including some of the locals’ secret weapons.

Accomodations
Trail Lake Ranch: Built shortly after the turn of the century, Trail Lake is a historic dude ranch sheltered in the far end of a magnificent glaciated valley in the rugged and spectacular Wind River Mountains. The clear running waters of Torrey Creek, originating in permanent glaciers above the trailhead to Gannett, the highest peak in the state, traverse the valley floor. Rock art and other traces of its early inhabitants share this sequestered retreat with the largest herd of wild, big horn sheep in North America. The accommodations are rustic but comfortable and the setting wild and remote. Double occupancy; some rooms have connecting bath shared by four people; limited private baths. Site conditions are physically demanding (7,400'elevation).

Activities
There are numerous activities for lazy days or non-angling friends, including visits to archaeological sites, rock art sites, hiking in the stunning Wind River and Absaroka Mountains and dancing in one the towns rustic saloons. Grouse hunting and horseback riding are also available by special arrangement.
