THE SMITHSONIAN’S NATIONAL MUSEUM OF THE AMERICAN INDIAN is dedicated to the preservation, study, and exhibition of the life, languages, literature, history, and arts of Native Americans. The museum’s collections span more than 10,000 years of Native heritage, from ancient stone Clovis points to modern silkscreen prints.

The BUFFALO BILL HISTORICAL CENTER is widely regarded as America’s finest western museum. Located in Cody, Wyoming, the Center features four internationally acclaimed museums under one roof: The Whitney Gallery of Western Art where you will find masterworks by revered artists and as well as  the artists’ work environment; the Buffalo Bill Museum houses a rich collection that interprets the history of the American cowboy, dude ranching, and the source of our ideas about the West; the Plains Indian Museum with its nationally significant collection from the early reservation period offers visitors not only objects made by Indian people but also the stories of the people behind the objects; and the Cody Firearms Museum which houses the most comprehensive assemblage of American firearms in the world.

NATIVE WEB and THE INDEX OF NATIVE AMERICAN RESOURCES ON THE INTERNET are collections of electronic resources for indigenous cultures providing information about Native cultural groups, law and literature, languages, education and publications.

ROCK ART AT RICE provides an introduction to prehistoric art with an emphasis on that art found in the southwest and western United States.

The AMERICAN INDIAN STUDIES AT CALIFORNIA STATE UNIVERSITY LIBRARY has an extensive collection of digital image exhibits dedicated to the presentation of unique artwork, photographs, video and sound recordings which accurately reflect the history, culture and richness of the Native American experience in North America. It also includes Indian people of Central America and Mexico.

THE NATIVE AMERICAN HISTORY ARCHIVE is a center for Native American Studies in Internetworked Classrooms. Hosted by Columbia University, the site provides easy access to Native American information and organizations, a forum for student discussions, and tools for Native American research within the networked classroom.

FIRST NATIONS HISTORIES is a geographic overview of First Nations Histories and Compact Histories Bibliography of Native Tribes of the US and Canada

The RESEARCH LIBRARY at the Getty Research Institute contains a wealth of selected Internet links for history, archaeology, and cultural studies and preservation.

ARCHAEOLOGY ON THE NET is an web-based archaeology resource center with links to organizations, publications, teaching resources, and newsgroups.

THE ARCHAEOLOGICAL INSTITUTE OF AMERICA supports archaeological research, publication and protection of the world’s cultural heritage. A non-profit and educational organization chartered by the US Congress, it is the oldest and largest archaeological organization in North America.
